Review: Oh Se Gee Hyang, Seoul

Oh Se Gae Hyang, 오세계향 is a vegan restaurant located in Seoul. It's owned by the well-known Korean vegetarian food company Vegifood. The cozy interior features a traditional hanok structure with around 60 seats.

The restaurant offers a variety of single-dish menu options including Korean and Chinese cuisine. You will find various plant-based dishes, including some pasta and salad options. Notably, alliums are used in some dishes but the menu clearly labels which dishes are without these ingredients.

I'm not Korean but from what I have heard this restaurant defines authentic Korean cuisine. The prices are fair and the food delicious. It is also conveniently located next to Vegan Dalsae for those who want some vegan dessert afterwards.

No Korean meal is complete without kimchi, but unfortunately it often contains seafood, shrimp or fish sauce but here you can get a vegan one! But I warn you it is hot! The balance of tanginess, heat and umami flavours makes it a must try. Pair it with your main course or enjoy it as a side dish.

Bibimbap is a classic Korean dish. It is colourful bowl of mixed rice, vegetable and protein. Their version offers a medley of veggies such as spinach, carrots, bean sprouts, and mushrooms over a bed of rice. The key to a great bibimbap lies in the flavourful gochujang (red chilli paste) that you can mix in. I loved this dish! But again: it's spicy!

I've seen that the restaurant has had some mixed reviews online, but we really enjoyed it and I think it is worth a try! Let's support vegan restaurants! For the animals, our health and the planet!
